The owner of this Legacy 32 was ready to replace the faded and worn vinyl panels on the interior fashion plates. After fresh coats of varnish were applied elsewhere, the aging vinyl stood out in an unflattering way. After reviewing the options, we agreed that custom teak panels would be fabricated, varnished, and installed to match the yacht’s existing aesthetic and would provide a lasting and cohesive solution.
Precise measurements and templating were essential, as the panels needed to fit tightly into a space defined by compound curves with virtually no square reference points. MDF templates were created and refined until a perfect fit was achieved, allowing the teak panels to be cut accurately. Once dry fit, all sides were sealed, and the exposed faces were built up with ten coats of Epifanes Gloss varnish for long-term protection and depth of finish.
To maintain a clean, uninterrupted appearance, visible fasteners were avoided. Custom clamping cauls and wedges were used to press the panels into place while they were bonded with 3M 5200 over the properly prepared vinyl surfaces. A fine finishing bead of sealant was then applied around the perimeter to prevent moisture intrusion. The result is a dramatic upgrade that elevates the interior and complements the yacht’s brightwork throughout.
