This classic Chris Craft Sportsman was ready for fresh coats of varnish, but before refinishing began, the owner wanted to address several tired and deteriorated areas of mahogany. The engine cover, despite a previous repair attempt, was in particularly poor condition. The existing low-grade “mahogany” plywood panels were removed, revealing soft and rotted framing beneath. New frames were fabricated, along with proper mahogany panels, and carefully fit to restore structural integrity.
Once the repairs were complete, Chris Craft Mahogany Red filler stain was applied to blend seamlessly with the rest of the boat, followed by ten coats of Epifanes Gloss varnish to match the fresh finish applied throughout the vessel. After completing additional details, including new teak boarding steps and replacement mahogany trim, the boat was once again ready for summer days on Lake Tahoe.
