Island Packet 27

This sturdy pocket cruiser was preparing for a move to warmer, sunnier tropical waters, and her varnish required a full restoration to protect against the elements. Nearly all of the existing finish exposed to sunlight had failed, leaving the teak gray and weathered and out of step with the otherwise well kept condition of the vessel. As with every project, all exterior teak was carefully masked off before the remaining finish was removed using scrapers and detailed sanding.

Particular care was taken to thoroughly sand the exposed wood, eliminating residual varnish in the grain and removing all traces of the weathered and gray teak. The finish was then rebuilt with ten coats of Epifanes Gloss varnish, with fine sanding between each coat to ensure proper adhesion and a deep, smooth result. The completed brightwork was fully prepared to withstand the tropical sun and finished to a level that stops other yacht owners in their tracks.
